Video Balun Pair — Send analog HD over CAT6
Baluns let you run analog HD cameras over cheap CAT6 instead of coax — perfect for retrofits and long runs.
What it is
A small passive adapter (sold in pairs) that converts a coax BNC signal into a twisted-pair signal that fits into a CAT6 wire.
One balun at the camera end, one at the DVR end.
How it works
- 1Camera BNC → balun → CAT6 (video on one pair, power on another) → balun → DVR BNC.
- 2Passive baluns need no power; active ones do but reach farther.
Best fit for
Reusing existing CAT6 runs
Switch from IP to analog without pulling new cable.
Long analog runs (100–300 m)
Cheaper and lower loss than long coax runs.

- HD-TVI/CVI/AHD compatible up to your DVR resolution.
- Passive: up to ~300 m; Active: up to ~600 m.
- Sold in matched pairs.
When you can skip it
- Pure IP camera setup — you don't need baluns; use PoE directly.
- Runs under 50 m over existing coax — just use the coax.
Common mistakes
- Mixing brands on the two ends — impedance mismatch causes ghosting.
- Running video and mains power in the same conduit — induces noise.
