Most Bangladeshi buyers over-buy on cameras and under-buy on storage. As a rule of thumb:
- Home (flat or 2-storey)2–4 cameras: main gate, staircase, parking, and one indoor common area.
- Shop or small office4–8 cameras: counter (facing customers), entry door, storeroom, and any blind spot.
- Warehouse or factory8–16 cameras: full perimeter, loading dock, production floor overview, and office.
2. Indoor dome vs outdoor bullet vs PTZ
Discreet, wide-angle, tamper-resistant. Best for shop interiors, corridors, and lobbies.
Weatherproof, visible deterrent, longer night vision. Best for gates, driveways, and perimeter walls.
Motorised pan/tilt/zoom. Only worth it if you have a large open area (factory floor, car park) and someone actively monitoring — otherwise a fixed bullet is better value.
3. Match the DVR to your camera count
Channels are one-way — you can't add more later. Buy one tier above your current camera count so you can expand.

4. How much storage is enough?
At 1080p continuous recording, one camera uses roughly 15 GB per day. Multiply that by your camera count and the number of days of footage you want to keep.
- 500 GB — ~8 days for 4 cameras. Fine for a home.
- 1 TB — ~16 days for 4 cameras, ~8 days for 8. Most popular for shops.
- 2 TB — ~30 days for 4 cameras, ~15 days for 8. Choose this if you review footage weekly.
5. Should you pay for installation?
If your run is short (indoor, one wall), a local electrician can do it. For roof drilling, weatherproof cable runs, and DVR configuration, professional installation is worth the ৳2,500 — mistakes here cost cameras and warranty.
